Module 4: Hidden Pictures of the Redeemer
In this module, you’ll begin to see something beautiful that most people miss at first glance: Jesus is not hidden from the Old Testament… He is revealed through it. Hidden Pictures of the Redeemer takes you on a guided walk through real stories, real people, and real moments that quietly point to Yeshua long before His birth in Bethlehem. From kinsman-redeemers like Boaz, to sacrificial patterns, to unexpected acts of rescue and restoration, each lesson uncovers a living picture of who Jesus is and what He has done for us. This isn’t about complicated theology. It’s about learning to see the patterns God has been weaving all along. Through simple teaching, short readings, and family-friendly discussions, you’ll discover: How ordinary people in the Old Testament reflect the heart of Jesus How redemption, rescue, and restoration show up again and again How these “hidden pictures” bring hope into your everyday life—your marriage, your parenting, your stress, your story By the end of this module, you won’t just read these stories the same way… you’ll start to recognize Jesus in places you never noticed before. Come walk the Orchard. The Redeemer has been there all along. 🌳

Course 3: Discovering Jesus in the Old Testament

Lesson 7: Ruth — The Kinsman-Redeemer

Lesson Big Idea

Boaz, the kinsman-redeemer in the story of Ruth, points us to Jesus — our perfect Kinsman-Redeemer who rescues us, restores us, and brings us into His family forever.

The Tension (for Busy Parents)

You’re juggling work, kids’ activities, debt, and that constant feeling of “Am I doing enough for my family?” Life feels uncertain. You want security for your kids, but the pressure never lets up.

What if the Bible has a simple, beautiful story that shows Jesus stepping into our mess exactly like a family redeemer — not with rules, but with love and rescue?

Connecting the Dots

The Book of Ruth is a short, true story set during the time of the judges. A Jewish woman named Naomi loses everything. Her Moabite daughter-in-law Ruth (a foreigner) chooses to stay with her. They return to Bethlehem poor and hopeless.

Then Boaz — a relative (kinsman-redeemer) — sees Ruth, provides for her, and chooses to redeem her and Naomi’s family line. He marries Ruth, and she becomes the great-grandmother of King David… and part of Jesus’ family tree.

This isn’t just ancient history. It’s a living picture of what Jesus does for us.

How We Read Scripture – PaRDeS (par-DEHS) (Quick Reminder)

  • Peshat (PEH-shaht) — Plain: What happened? Ruth, a Gentile, is redeemed by Boaz in Bethlehem.
  • Remez (reh-MEHZ) — Hint: Boaz is a clear pointer (Aleph-Tav style connection) to the Messiah.
  • Derash (deh-RAHSH) — Seek: How do we live redeemed lives today?
  • Sod (SOHD) — Mystery: The Holy Spirit shows us Jesus personally welcoming us home.

Practical Rhythm for This Lesson (One Week)

  • Days 1–2 (Peshat) — Watch the Bible Project video on Ruth (7 minutes). Read the whole short Book of Ruth (4 chapters) out loud as a family.
  • Days 3–4 (Remez) — Look for the “Boaz points to Jesus” connections.
  • Day 5 (Derash) — Talk about one way your family can show “redeeming love” this week.
  • Days 6–7 (Sod) — Quiet time or bedtime prayer — ask Jesus to show you how He is your Redeemer right now.

Daily Starting Point

Each morning this week, say together:
“Jesus, You are our Kinsman-Redeemer. Thank You for stepping into our story.”

Next Steps for Families

  • Watch the Bible Project Ruth video together: https://youtu.be/0h1eoBeR4Jk
  • Make a simple “Redeemer Jar” — write one thing each family member is thankful Jesus has redeemed and read them Sunday night.
  • Join or start a Life Group conversation about this lesson.
  • Try one act of redeeming love: help a neighbor, forgive quickly, or share a meal.

Memory Verse

Ruth 3:12 (NLT)
“Although I am one of your family redeemers, there is another man who is more closely related to you than I am.”
(Boaz points forward — Jesus is the closest and only perfect Redeemer.)

Transformation Questions (Family or Group)

  1. What part of the Bible Project video or Ruth’s story surprised you or felt like your own family’s story?
  2. How does knowing Jesus is your Kinsman-Redeemer change how you handle stress, money worries, or parenting fears this week?
  3. What is one practical way your family can live as “redeemed people” who show Jesus’ love to others?

Closing Prayer

Jesus, our Kinsman-Redeemer, thank You for seeing us when we felt lost, providing when we felt empty, and choosing us when we didn’t deserve it. Help us feel Your strong, gentle love covering our family. Give our children childlike wonder that You are part of our family story. Transform us from the inside out. We love You. Amen.

Baruch HaShem (bah-ROOK hah-SHEM) — Blessed is the Name!
Let’s keep walking the Orchard together, friends. 🌳
Jesus is still redeeming every chapter of our story.

🧭 How This Week Works (Keep This Simple)
